About Winchester PDX1 9mm

The PDX1 Defender uses a bonded jacketed hollow point designed to maintain weight retention through barriers. Previously known as the Winchester Ranger T-Series in LE packaging. The bonding process prevents jacket-core separation. Available primarily in 20-round retail boxes. The 124gr +P is the more popular configuration for carry use.

124gr +P vs 147gr Standard — Which to Carry

The 124gr +P (S9MMPDB) is the more popular choice and delivers higher velocity for reliable expansion through barriers like denim and auto glass. The trade-off is increased recoil and muzzle flash, especially from short barrels. The 147gr standard pressure (S9MMPDB1) runs subsonic, produces less felt recoil, and penetrates deeper in bare gelatin — a better match for compact and subcompact pistols where controllability matters. If your pistol is +P rated and has a 3.5"+ barrel, the 124gr +P is the stronger performer; for micro-compacts, the 147gr standard pressure is the safer bet.

How It Compares

PDX1 competes with Federal HST ($0.55–0.80/rd in 50-round boxes) and Speer Gold Dot ($0.55–0.85/rd). At $0.60–0.90/rd in 20-round boxes, PDX1 is one of the more expensive options per round. Its bonded construction gives it an edge in weight retention over non-bonded HST, but HST's wider expansion and 50-round box availability make it the better overall value. Gold Dot is also bonded and available in 50-round LE boxes, putting PDX1 at a packaging disadvantage.

Buying Tips

PDX1 only comes in 20-round retail boxes, which keeps per-round costs high. There is no 50-round LE equivalent currently in distribution, so bulk savings are limited to buying multiple boxes. Watch for sales where PDX1 dips below $0.65/rd — that is a competitive price for bonded JHP. If you find the now-discontinued Ranger T-Series (same bullet, LE packaging), buy it — it is the same load at a better price.
