Rimfire ammo prices

Compare .22 LR prices across retailers — from bulk plinking bricks to match-grade target ammo and suppressor-friendly subsonic loads.

The .22 LR is the most affordable cartridge to shoot by a wide margin, which makes it the default choice for introducing new shooters, high-volume practice, and recreational plinking. A 500-round brick costs less than a single box of premium 9mm hollow points.

The rimfire market segments into three clear tiers. Bulk plinking ammo — CCI Blazer, Federal Champion, Aguila Super Extra — sits at the bottom of the price range and is adequate for most semi-auto pistols and rifles at typical range distances. High-velocity and small game ammo — CCI Mini-Mag, CCI Velocitor — steps up in both reliability and terminal performance, with expanding bullets suited for pest control. Match and competition ammo — SK Standard Plus, Eley Tenex, Lapua Center-X — is manufactured to the tight tolerances required for competitive smallbore and benchrest shooting and commands a significant premium.

One important consideration with rimfire: ignition reliability varies more than with centerfire ammunition. CCI-manufactured products (Mini-Mag, Standard Velocity, Blazer) have the best reputation for consistent ignition. If you're buying for a semi-auto that needs to run reliably, stepping up to CCI or equivalent quality is worth the small per-round premium.
