About Hornady ELD Match 6.5 Creedmoor

The Hornady ELD Match is arguably the standard factory match load for 6.5 Creedmoor. The ELD-M (Extremely Low Drag Match) bullet uses a heat-resistant polymer tip that maintains its BC better than traditional tips. The 140gr is the most popular weight and performs excellently to 1000+ yards. Hornady developed the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge in partnership with Creedmoor Sports, making them the de facto authority on loading it.

140gr vs 147gr — Which to Choose

The 140gr (81500) is the standard choice for most PRS competitors and long-range shooters. It stabilizes well in common 1:8 twist barrels and is widely stocked. The 147gr has a higher BC (.697 G1 vs .646 G1) and stays supersonic longer past 1,200 yards, making it the pick for ELR competition. For 90% of shooters working inside 1,000 yards, the 140gr is the right call.

How It Compares

Hornady ELD Match is the default factory 6.5CM match load and the benchmark other brands compete against. Federal Gold Medal Berger 130gr offers an alternative with a slightly different trajectory at similar pricing ($0.90--1.30/rd). Nosler Match Grade 140gr runs $1.00--1.40/rd with competitive accuracy but less availability. For competitive PRS shooting, ELD Match at $0.85--1.25/rd provides the best combination of accuracy, availability, and value.

Buying Tips

ELD Match is only available in 20-round boxes, so case buys mean 200 rounds. Buy from the same lot number for competition consistency, as slight velocity spreads between lots can affect drop charts at distance. The brass is high-quality and excellent for reloading — many competitors fire Hornady factory loads, then reload the brass with custom charges. Stock up when prices dip below $1.00/rd, as match ammo availability fluctuates with competition season demand.
